Valley 4-Her Laura Morfitt of Moffat took home the top award for her Wildlife 4-H exhibit at the Colorado State Fair this week. Her project, along with award winners from more than 30 other local 4-Hers, will be on display during the State Fair, which runs through September 6 at the state fairgrounds in Pueblo.

Morfitt, 13, received the intermediate Wildlife Division Grand Champion award for her display on osprey. The poster presented information about the birds’ habitat, diet and behavior. Morfitt was also recognized as the Unit Champion for the project.
A number of other local youth were also recognized as champions in their project units. A Unit Champion award was given to Kyra Griffin for her Clothing Construction project, a simple top. Reserve Unit Champion awards were won by Madisen Shawcroft (Clothing Construction, Skirt), Johnnie Torr (Rocketry, Intermediate), Chloe Huffaker (Clothing Construction, Dress), and Alyson Noga (Shooting Sports, 22 Pistol).

All of the 4-H exhibits at the State Fair qualified for the event by being the top exhibit from their county at the San Luis Valley Fair, held earlier this month in Monte Vista. The projects will be on display daily at the State Fair in the 4-H buildings on the east end of the fairgrounds.
